Cleanse!

This week has been so incredibly busy! I haven't even blogged since Monday.  Still on track, I did have one glass of sangria so I decided to slightly modify the rules of Sobvember.  When you are on a diet, you still get a cheat day to have dessert, right?  So I think it should be the same for a month without drinking, one glass of wine a week is OK!

Share of the week:

In college I attempted to do the master cleanse a few different times but never made it too far.   I figured that now would be a great time to another attempt since I am already cutting out alcohol :)!

For those of you who are not familiar with the master cleanse, this is the intense cleanse where you fast for 5-14 days and drink nothing but a concoction of:

  •  water
  • cayenne pepper
  • lemon juice
  • grade B maple syrup
I went almost two days on the master cleanse before I headed to Whole Foods to pick up more ingredients.   I felt alright and on path to stick to the cleanse, however it is pretty hard on your lifestyle to be fasting and only drinking the "lemonade".  While at Whole Foods, I spoke with the nutrition helper and she mentioned that master cleanse made cleansing very popular many years ago.  Since then, many advances have been made in cleanses including cleanses that are  a bit more gentle on your lifestyle, including eating!  Thank God!

I picked up a kit called the 7 Total Body Rapid Cleanse by Renew Life.    This includes 2 cleansing formulas (one for morning & evening) and a fiber boost that you drink both morning and night.   The recommended diet is pretty basic, try to eat as raw/natural as your can....lots of fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish, naturally raised meats, etc.

So far I have only been doing this cleanse for one day and I feel like this is a much better fit lifestyle wise.

Happy Cleansing!

Sobvember Challenge

I am officially declaring this as the Sobvember Challenge

Men have the Movember challenge to grow out their dirty old man mustaches during the month of November to  promote awareness of Prostate Cancer.  Us ladies may not be able to grow a mustache (I take that back, we can but we wax it!) but we can promote self control by staying sober for an entire month to reset our lives and prove to ourselves that we still have it...maybe even be an inspiration to others!  Cleanse your body, clear your mind, look & feel great! It's like a mini New Years' resolution...just one month instead of a year...way easier than 12 :)!

This is still a new challenge but I have been putting more time than usual into extra curricular projects, working out, and accomplishing the goals that I have set for this challenge and I feel great!  I think everyone should give it a try.

Go #sobvember!

Taylor Swift

I love Taylor Swift, but I also think this is on point! What's the saying....fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, I'm the fool....three, four, five....how many songs does she have about her exes?!

Funny Confession Ecard: Let's face it Taylor Swift, I think you might be the difficult one to date...

First Weekend

What a fabulous SOBER weekend! My man and I had a nice spa weekend full of couples massages and lots of cuddle time.   Typically this would also be filled with wine or champagne, however I resisted the temptation.  This is truly my 7th day without drinking (4th for the Sobvember Challenge) and I feel so refreshed and clear!

Share of the Day:
Before leaving for the weekend, I had a chance to sneak in a quick project.   We have a few pumpkins leftover from Halloween and I decided to make use of them.   I first made them into pumpkin puree then into a homemade pumpkin enzyme face mask and crustless pumpkin pie.  The pumpkin pie did not turn out very well, so I will save you all and not post the recipe on here :).  The mask on the other hand, is amazing!

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask:
This mask is very popular during the fall time and also very expensive!  Spare yourself the $100 that you would spend on a facial and just create the mask at home.  It's very easy and just as effective at home as it is at the spa.  I basically followed the recipe on this site  with my own modifications.  You will need:

  • 1 Cup Pumpkin Puree (preferably steamed from a raw pumpkin however canned will do)
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Honey
  • 1/4 Cooked Oatmeal (optional)

1.  Prepare the pumpkin in a small bowl (steam pumpkin chunks for 20 min, scrape away skin, blend until smooth)
2.  Add cinnamon, milk, honey, and cooked oatmeal to puree
3.  Mix all ingredients with spoon, blend if you would like a smoother consistency
4.  Store in a cute container and keep refridgerated to preserve the ingredients :)

To Use:
Apply skin for 5 -7 minutes, rinse away with luke warm water.

Note that this WILL make your face red!  This redness is because the mask is packed with active essential nutrients and vitamins (enzymes, Vitamin A & C). Pumpkin increases cell turnover rate, and promotes healthy production of collagen and elastin, perfect for smoothing out wrinkles, lines, and improving tone and texture.

Enjoy!

Definition of a Sober Sallie Via Urban Dictionary

1.Sober Sally44 up16 down
When drinking with friends, sober sally is the girl who never gets sloppy. She's the one taking care of everyone else. Whether it's giving them a bath or making them detox tea, this girl also makes pancakes as a hangover breakfast.

That is the goal :)!

Day 2

Today was a semi-successful.  I say semi-successful because I did not have a single drink on a Friday night = SUCCESS!  I spent 3 hours shopping and spent a couple $100s at Nordy's = Not so successful.

The three hours was not intentional however I did rediscover my love for shopping.  Plus I did not eat gluten, drink, and I believe that long of a shopping session qualifies as moderate-to-intense cardio...talk about sticking to my goals!

Share of the Day:

I discovered an amazing app for training for a 5K.  It's called C25K, which I just found out stands for Couch To 5K, not too crazy about the acronym but the app rocks.   This is practically a free personal running trainer on your iphone.  You just start the app, pick whatever music you want to sweat to, and then allow the motivational voice on C25K to guide through a series of intervals.  There are three progressive workouts a week for a five week routine.   Already in love <3!

And I am excited to say that I have already had over 20 unique visitors in my first :)!   I do not know who all of you are but thank you for checking out my blog!
